Classes at the Federal University of Santa Catarina will be suspended on Tuesday 18 October. The decision is being taken by the Central Office of Student Affairs, which last Friday, October 14, determined the meeting to “completely cease activities so that students can draw up an act in favor of education.”
In the same Assembly, support was approved for the candidacies of Lula for President of the Republic and Desio Lima for President of Santa Catarina.
“There will also be a dialogue with these candidates to commit themselves to education and the student movement if they win the elections,” the DCE/UFSC social media post explains.
The “Protect Education” movement is led by the National Union of Students and is taking place across the country.
The motto of the protest is cuts in the Ministry of Education, which students and staff say could make the university impossible.
