Whatever the assessment of Santa Catarina’s representation in the National Congress during the National Constituent Assembly, its political quality cannot be underscored. It is good to remember these leaders as we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the promulgation of the new Magna Carta.
There were three senators in the state: Jorge Bornhausen, Nelson Wedekin and Dirceu Carneiro. Bornhausen played a prominent role in national politics, leading the ministries of education (Jose Sarny) and the civil chamber (Collor). Dirceu was the secretary of the Congress who passed the revocation of the mandate to Fernando Collor. And Nelson Vedekin led the left movements for a long time, until he opted for a private initiative.
In the Federal Chamber, the national projection was no different. The MDB had nine deputies in the Constituent Assembly. Luis Enrique da Silveira was MDB National President, Party Leader, Technology Minister, Governor and Senator for Santa Catarina. Eduardo Moreira was also governor twice, Paulo Macarini is another expression recognized here and in Brasilia. Renato Vianna was mayor of Blumenau twice. Francisco Kuster, president of Alesc and Celesc. And more: Walmore de Luca, Ivo Vanderlinde, Wilson Souza and Alexander Puzina.
In the PFL, Vitor Fontana, an agricultural specialist, Claudio Avila da Silva, the mayor of the capital, and Orlando Pacheco shone.
The PDS had other highlights as well: António Carlos Conder Reis was Deputy General Rapporteur for the new Charter and right-hand man of Rapporteur Bernardo Cabral and later Governor of the State. Enrique Córdoba, also governor, Artenier Werner, president of the Congress Club, and Ruberbal Piloto, southern leader who opened the doors to Brasilia.
Representatives who received the vote received in 1986.
