Senator Simone Tebet (MDB), who finished third in the first round of the presidential election, announced this Wednesday (5) his support for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round. The announcement came after the MDB’s national chief executive said the party would accept neutrality in the second round of the presidential race.
“Despite the criticism I have made, I will cast my vote for him. His commitment to democracy and the Constitution, which I don’t know about the current president,” he said.
Tebet stated that there is currently “no room for inaction” and that “until October 30” he will be in the streets in support of Lula. “I will call for the defense of democracy and social justice,” he said.
According to the portal R7, the support came after the parliamentarian met with Lula, had lunch with a member of the PT and agreed on support.
Tebet, in turn, made proposals to the government program, but did not require the inclusion of his proposals, as did Ciro Gomes (PDT). In the elections held last Sunday, 4.9 million people voted for Tebet. Having learned the result of the first round, she already confessed to her allies and people close to her that she would decide to support Lulu.
Among the proposals made by Tebet is gender equality with a guarantee of quotas for women in government, as well as a commitment to be financially responsible.
Another requirement of the parliamentarian was the preservation of the Amazon and a guarantee that the state policy aimed at early childhood education would be expanded. At some point, she agreed to record a video and appear next to Lula, which Ciro has yet to accept.
