It’s not news that Santa Catarina voted heavily for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in this first round. Last Sunday (2), just over 62% of the votes cast in the state were for the incumbent. But in some municipalities this percentage was even higher.
In the Itajai Valley, even one city was considered the most Bolsonarist in the state in this first round. Benedito Novo, with a population of just under 12,000, won the “title”. Overall, 78.41% of voters voted for the re-election of the incumbent, while only 15.43% voted for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
But Benedito Novo was not the only municipality that voted overwhelmingly for a candidate for re-election. In just 25 cities, the percentage of votes cast for Jair Bolsonaro exceeded 70%.
In fact, in the entire region, in only one municipality, the incumbent president of the republic had less than 60% of the vote. It was in José Bouate. Out of 3,509 possible votes, the PL candidate received “only” 57.27% of the votes against 37.41% for the PT candidate.
As a result, the municipality of Alto Vale do Itajaí was ranked as the least Bolsonist (or most Luliste) city in the region.
