The first round of the 2022 elections indicates the consolidation of new political scenarios in Santa Catarina’s largest cities. The strengthening of acronyms and the weakening of local politicians in disputes between states and federal authorities are some of the changes shown by the results.

O BUT+ summarized the situation in the dispute for the presidency and state government, which will be determined in the second round, in six cities allocated by the state: Joinville, Florianopolis, Blumenau, Crisium, Lages and Chapeco. They are among the ten largest local electoral colleges.

In all of them, Jair Bolsonaro (Poland) defeated former President Lula (Portugal). In Florianopolis, the competition was fiercer, with a margin of just over 3% between candidates, according to TSE (Higher Electoral Court) data.

In Chapeco, in the west of Santa Catarina, the most unpredictable elections for the government of Santa Catarina took place: Jorginho Mello (PL) won 29.80% of the Chapecoense electorate, while his opponent Desio Lima (PT) won 27.31%, a difference of just over 2%.

Former mayor missing in Blumenau

Although Decio Lima was re-elected mayor of Blumenau between 1997 and 2005, he supported Mello among the Blumenauens in the dispute for chief executive. The difference was almost 27%: the PT reached 16.89% against 43.75% won by candidate Bolsonaro (PL).

The current governor, Carlos Moises (Republican), came in third with 11.54% of the vote. Then come Odair Tramontin (11.54%), Amin (7.89%) and Jean Loureiro (7.87). The remaining candidates scored less than 1%.

In the presidential elections, the city of Oktoberfest repeated its preference for Bolsonaro: the president received the support of 66.74% of the electorate, which corresponds to just over 137,000 voters. Lula had over 47,000 votes, almost 23% of the electorate. This is followed by Simona Tebet (5.35%), Ciro Gomes (2.38%) and Luis D’Avila (2.04%).

New party unites in Joinville

Joinville, the state’s largest electoral college, is showing the rise of Novo, an acronym for Mayor Adriano Silva. A symptom of this is the fact that the party’s presidential candidate, Luis D’Avila, receives 2.73% of the vote. Ahead of Ciro Gomes (PDT), who won 2.04% of the Joinville electorate, is an exceptional situation.

Nearly 350,000 voters also showed the most support for Bolsonaro among Santa Catarina’s largest cities. The president received 68.98% of the valid votes, while Lula received 21.43% (corresponding to just over 74,000 votes). This is followed by Simona Tebet (4.16%), Luis D’Avila (2.73%) and Ciro Gomez (2.04%).

In the contest for the post of governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello won 46.73% of the vote. Decio Lima, in turn, received the support of 14.03% of the Joinville electorate. The next places are Jean Loureiro (Unian) with 11.19%, Moises (Republicans) with 10.60%, Esperidian Amin (PP) with 8.54% and finally Odair Tramontin (Novo) with 8.07%.

Tough dispute in Chapeco

Capital of the West had the toughest bid for state government of any major college. The percentage difference between the candidates who made it to the 2nd round was 2.49%, which corresponds to almost 3,000 residents. Mello scored 29.80% and Lima scored 27.31%.

In third place with 23.12% of the vote was Jean Loureiro (Unian). The former mayor of Florianopolis received support from Joao Rodrigues (PSD), the mayor of Chapeco. This is followed by Carlos Moises (10.30%), Amin (7.14%) and Odair Tramontin (1.80%). The rest scored less than 1%.

Jair Bolsonaro (PL) received 72,582 votes, corresponding to 56.68% of Chapecoense voters. Lula (PT), in turn, won 36.70% of the vote. Then come Tebet (3.33%) and Ciro Gomez (1.94%). The rest scored less than 1%.

Tense presidential elections in Florianopolis

The difference between Lula and Bolsonaro in the capital was small, with the PL candidate receiving 45.67% of over 320,000 valid votes, while Lula’s share was 42.43%. Then comes Tebet (MDB) with 6%; Ciro Gomes (PDT) with 3.31%; and Luis D’Avila 1.66%. The rest did not exceed 1%.

In the elections for the government of Santa Catarina, former mayor Jean Loureiro received the largest share of voters, with about 33.26% of all voters scoring 44 points in the polls. Second place went to Desio Lima with 24.39%.

Then come Jorginho Mello (22.38%), Carlos Moises (12.45%), Amin (4.39%) and Odair Tramontin (2.26%). The rest did not exceed 1%.

Crisium and Lagesh prefer Bolsonaro

Bolsonaro received wide support from the electorates of Lageano and Criciumense, where he received 64.50% and 59.07% of the vote respectively. In the Southern Municipality, Lula won 26.79%, which is 31,462 votes. This is followed by Simona Tebet (4.17%), Ciro Gomes (2.59%) and Luis D’Avila (1.29%).

Among governors, Jorginho Mello won 33.86% of the valid votes. This is followed by Carlos Moises (21.22%), Amin (16.44%), Desiu Lima (14.79%), Jean Loureiro (9.45%), Odair Tramontin (2.11%), Boeira (1. 93%). The municipality has 111,147 valid votes.
