Attorney General Sula Braverman dropped out of the Conservative leadership race after finishing last in the final vote.
The Brexiteer received just 27 votes, leaving five other candidates at the bottom of the list.
Rishi Sunak held the lead after the Tory MP’s second vote, receiving 101 votes. That is 13 votes more than in the first round yesterday.
Penny Mordaunt was in second place with 83 votes, 16 more than yesterday, and Liz Truss was in third place with 64, 14 more than in the previous round.
Cammy Badenoch finished fourth with 40 to 49 MP from the last round, while Tom Tugendat scored 37 to 32.
The remaining five candidates will advance to the third round of voting, which will take place on Monday.
The result is another boost for Mordaunt, who looks set to fight Truss for a chance to go to snack time in the second and final round.
Despite the disappointing results, Tugendat insisted that he would not give up.
he tweeted. “We need confidence in our politics. Next week I will present my vision of Britain in a televised debate.
Truss supporter Simon Clarke said the upcoming vote was “important” to the foreign secretary’s desire to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister.
he said:
“We had a good solid momentum today. We are moving forward and the next round is very important for us.”
Former leader Mark Harper, who endorsed Snak, said his campaign “will continue to focus on capacity and economic agendas.”
he said:
“Being honest with people and being realistic about challenges is the message people are looking for.”
