Senator and presidential candidate Simona Tebet (MDB) rated investments in research and science at the spending ceiling during a meeting with USP (University of Sao Paulo) researchers and scientists this Wednesday (24).
“Each year, little is budgeted, and what little is budgeted is sometimes cut by more than half, reaching 60%,” he said. Tebet was accompanied by her Vice President, Senator Mara Gabrilli (PSDB). Information taken from the Correio Braziliense website.
At the meeting, Simone Tebet stated that she values financial responsibility. “This is a means to eradicate poverty, make Brazil grow again and create jobs,” he said.
After the meeting, the candidate explained his proposal at a press conference. Tebet stated that “science, technology and innovation save lives”.
“1.970 trillion reais in the budget, excluding debt servicing. Today, the resources of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) are only 10 billion reais. Considering this scenario, where Fundeb [Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica e de Valorização dos Profissionais da Educação] no longer in the subject, that is, having the money that he can spend, we stand up for the same thing. Science, technology and innovation save lives,” he said.
