Ukrainian family fleeing Russian missiles managed to return home four months after the escape. Arriving at the residence in Gostomel, the family found a pet dog waiting for them at the door of the destroyed house.
The article, reported by Solntse newspaper, explains that 35-year-old Kateruna Titova called it a “miracle” that the animal survived the bombardment and remained alive during those months. Probably, according to the owner, a Siberian husky named White was looking for food in the ruins around the city.
“Against the backdrop of the horror that Russia is after us and our desperate desire to leave, we had to make the painful decision to leave Bely behind,” Katerina told the Sun.
“It is nothing less than a miracle that he survived without us. He waited patiently as if we were shopping instead of being away for months after saving our lives,” he added.
Joy in the midst of chaos
“I cried when I saw what was left of our city now. Bely’s life feels like a gift – it’s something positive to hold on to as we try to rebuild our shattered lives.”
In March, a photograph circulated around the world showing her and her 5-year-old daughter, Tajisia, holding hands while evading a Russian airstrike. Her husband Alexander, 35, and the couple’s son, Makar, 10, also fled.
The family said they stayed with friends in west-central Ukraine in Vinnitsa until it was safe to return after Russia withdrew troops from Gostomel.
