The Urusanga City Council in southern South Carolina approved a second processing commission on Tuesday evening (21) to investigate the activities of Mayor Gustavo Cancille (PP). In the first attempt, the case was adjourned last month.
Cansille was convicted as a result of an investigation by the Federal Police under Operation Benedet and removed from June 20, 2021, but with a provisional return on June 14, 2021.
He is accused of a number of administrative actions that are considered harmful to the state budget. A later fact, after his return almost a year after his departure, was the violation of the secrecy about the process that passed from hand to hand in the city.
For strategic reasons, last month the opposition postponed the first attempt to impeach the mayor. It was guarded by a new “cocked” commission, the installation of which took place on Tuesday evening. There will be 40 days of parliamentary inquiry.
This time the committee approved by 4 votes to 3, by a simple majority. In the meantime, the investigation continues in Federal Court against the mayor, who returned to office.
On the eve of the creation of the new commission, there were complaints about the use of personal data by a proxy of Deputy Mayor Jair Nandi (SDP) in an attempt to coerce opposition advisers not to approve the new commission.
