This week’s rail strike will bring the country to a standstill, but if the union decides to continue protesting, it could actually have a much longer lasting impact on Britain.

The debate between the railway union and the operators culminated in the biggest speech seen in Britain in more than 30 years.

There was little sign that either side was willing to compromise, with some union leaders warning that they would not give up until their demands were met. That is, the delay may continue for some time.

What’s happening this week?

Railway network workers strike across the country on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. They will attend the London Underground service on Tuesday.

This means that only 20% of traditional services are carried and rail operators are urging people not to travel. However, GCSE and Level A exams are taking place this week in conjunction with Glastonbury, the UK’s biggest festival, so many are looking for alternative routes.

Some districts are completely closed for rail service and the promotion lasts only three days, which may alter the schedule for the rest of the week.

Why are the workers on strike?

Approximately 40,000 RMT members will go on strike after years of unsuccessful negotiations with rail operators.

Workers will be reimbursed for wages, unemployment and working conditions.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: We can lose the foundation we have built over decades and lose our confidence as an organisation. It’s no use”

Why do people think that the strike can last longer?

Lynch told the newspaper i that a long-term dispute (lasting into the fall) is possible.

“Maybe, but I hope it’s not, but at this point there seems to be little evidence that it’s the other way around.

Lynch also revealed that rally leader RMT will decide whether to continue to attack later this week. He said other unions are already considering it.

However, the RMT must give two weeks’ notice of new actions so that the general public can know in advance if there will be another strike.

What is the government doing?

The government has so far refused to intervene, Treasury Secretary Simon Clarke told Sky News. “

However, he expressed concern about the extension of the strike.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport said:

“It will cause widespread disaster for people across the country, affecting employment, income, education, and even medical appointments.”
