Women aged 45 to 59 with secondary education make up the majority of eligible voters in Brazil’s 2022 elections. With 52.8% of voters, the female audience also makes up the largest share in almost all cuts across regions and schools. In total, men make up 47.1%, according to the TSE (Higher Electoral Court).

According to the R7 portal, 152.1 million people have the right to vote, which is 3.4% more than in the 2018 elections, when 147.1 million people took part in them.

The scenario represents an increase of 32.1% over the data recorded 20 years ago. It is worth noting that 30,900 people did not indicate their gender.

Of this total, 136.5 million are required to vote and 15.5 million are eligible – teenagers aged 16 and 17 and seniors over 70. Voting is also optional for illiterate voters.

By the next election, more than 5.6 million people declared themselves illiterate, that is, 3.7% of voters. Despite this, this number is 1 million less than was recorded in the 2018 elections, when 6.5 million told the Electoral Court that they could neither read nor write. According to the TSE, more than 183,000 voters have registration errors.

In addition, women also make up the majority when it comes to educational attainment. At a higher level, 60.8% are women and 39.1% men. Already with incomplete higher education, they make up 55.2% of the total, while men make up 44.7%.

Women also make up the majority among voters with complete secondary education – 56.1% against 43.8% of men. The male audience is made up of the majority of voters with incomplete primary education (50.6% versus 49.2%) and people without specialized education, but able to read and write (50.5% versus 49.1%).

Abroad, 679,188 Brazilians are eligible to vote, of which 281,311 are men and 397,877 are women. The countries with the highest concentration of Brazilian voters are the US, Japan and Portugal.

As in Brazil, the 35 to 59 age group makes up the majority of voters. In terms of education, the majority outside the country have higher education, and 837 people are illiterate.
