The anteater frightened the inhabitants of a house in the town of Pomerode, in the Itajai Valley, and had to be rescued this Saturday (16). Volunteer city firefighters were called in to catch the animal and return it to its natural habitat.
According to rescuers, the rescue took place in the late afternoon at a house on Hermann Günther Street in the Ribeirão Clara district. No signs of injury were found on the animal.
After the animal was caught with due care, it was released into the bush away from the Pomerode urban area. The anteater was returned to its natural habitat.

This is not the first time the anteater has been seen on the loose, making “surprise visits” to residents of the Itajaí Valley. Earlier this month, volunteer firefighters also rescued an anteater on the roof of a house in Ibirama.
Rescuers advise that if a resident encounters animals in the home in such a situation, if they pose a danger to the residents, call security forces, for example, the fire service or the military environmental police.
