Two macaws were victims of a freak accident in the center of Palmas, Tocantins. They fell from a tree during heavy rain and were hit by cars on Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek. The incident occurred on Friday (17), around 17:30.
Witnesses at the bus stop recorded the moment when the birds tried to balance on a branch attached to a power line. A gust of wind threw a branch into the middle of the road, and a car drove over the macaw.
People who witnessed the scene stopped traffic to help the birds, who were injured and scared. The driver who hit him did not stop to help.
The birds were rescued and taken to the Cefau (Fauna Center) in Naturatins (Instituto Natureza do Tocantins), where they were given first aid. According to the agency, they are doing well and should be released soon.
