A video showing dozens of alligators in a Pantanal waterway has attracted much attention. On social networks, Internet users noted the return of rain to the region, which was punished by devastating fires.
According to satellite monitoring carried out by Inpe (National Institute for Space Research), 73 fires were recorded in Mato Grosso do Sul on Monday (20).
Only four outbreaks have been reported in Mato Grosso. The reason for the decrease is an increase in precipitation.
From November 13 to 19, the BD Queimadas system, which analyzes outbreaks, counted 1,505 outbreaks in Mato Grosso do Sul and 2,142 in Mato Grosso.
The institute continues to monitor the region as rainfall in central-west Brazil is not yet sufficient to restore the biome’s needs. The damage recorded in the region is significant.
