Horses and other animals are prohibited in Florianópolis.
Councilor Maria da Graça Dutra (PMDB) approved a bill in 2014 that would gradually eliminate carts from the streets of Florianópolis.
The idea would be to reduce the turnover of carts in the capital. According to JusBrasil, Bill 1352/2014, which prohibits the movement of horse-drawn vehicles, was approved unanimously by 20 votes.
“This is the liberation of the horses of Florianópolis, who suffer greatly in such conditions. We even believe in other transportation alternatives for waste pickers, such as bicycles,” Dutra said.
