Esther, known on social media as “The Wonder Pig”, died this Thursday (19) at the age of 11 in Ontario, Canada. The death was announced online by the animal’s owners, Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter.
The cause of death has not been reported, but she underwent surgery to remove breast cancer in 2017 and was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer soon after and managed to recover.
Esther was adopted in 2012 by Steve and Derek but was described as a “micro pig” at the time. However, in the following years the animal began to grow and in less than two years it already weighed 272 kg – at the moment it weighed 300 kg.
Because of their relationship with Esther, Steve and Derek stopped eating meat. They say they were cooking at home, holding a pig at their feet, when they realized, “That bacon on the stove could be Esther.”
