Simone Gomez has a peculiar pet: a basset hound. Despite caring for the pet for 4 months, a resident of Petrolina de Goiás (GO) was forced by the municipal health authority to remove the piglet from the house where she lives in the city and take her to the village.
Nina, as she is called, has been with Simone since she was 20 days old. A neighbor who said she smelled a foul odor filed a complaint that led to the pig being kicked out of the house, Simone said.
According to resident Petrolina de Goyas, the agency even checked the complaint at her home, but did not find any odors. She received an order to evict Nina from the house within three days. The teacher contacted the lawyers and asked to extend the period for another 10 days. However, he had to take Nina to a friend’s farm, about 10 km from where he lives.
Nina’s teacher shared this story on her Instagram profile. On September 22, she published a video of the moment when, by decision of the department, she took the piglet to her country house.
Since then, the animal has been there, and the owner is trying to reconsider the decision and take Nina home. “I was very sad to see how homesick Nina was,” he wrote in the post. “It was difficult for her to walk, but she never remained like that: prostrate, sad, almost unable to walk. Nina and I are very tired of this separation forced on us,” he added about the piglet’s current situation.
Rejection reason
According to the R7 portal, Simona stated that the agency cited the ban on pig farming in the city as the basis for Nina’s eviction from the house.
Simone, assisted by lawyers, requested reports confirming that Nina was healthy and not a carrier of disease. “We wanted to make a statement that she is healthy and living like a pet,” he told a reporter.
Moreover, according to the guardian, when the lawyers contacted the supervisory service and asked for a copy of the record for filing an appeal, the agency had nothing to show. According to the resident, the action was carried out in excess of official authority.
The mayor’s office said in a statement that the department, having received a complaint that a pig had been raised in the city, went to the address, checked the fact and notified the resident.
It also emphasizes that the group operated within the framework of municipal legislation. However, he said that the case was closed as soon as the animal was taken to the countryside.
