A video of a giant bear serving itself during a picnic with a child recently went viral on the Internet and was the subject of commentary by a biologist. The animal finished the whole family’s meal and feasted in the most shameless “self-service” style.
According to the Daily Mail tabloid, the incident occurred in the Chipinque Ecological Park in the Mexican city of San Pedro Garza Garcia. However, biologist Enrique Abraham believes that this animal was a North American bear.
“He came close and almost asked for affection. Do you know why this is so? Because you’re probably being encouraged to do that behavior. And that’s the problem, because they are wild and unpredictable animals,” says Enrique.

According to the Daily Mail tabloid, the state of Nuevo Leon, where the park in question is located, is home to at least 38 animals of this species, popularly called black bears. According to Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the animal is endangered.
Authorities have posted posters throughout the region warning of the predators’ presence. They ask visitors to avoid any approach, keep food away from them and not leave trash along the way to avoid attracting them.
