A series of videos showing apparently wild animals, even resembling pets, have recently divided opinion online. In it, the people who filmed the footage basically conclude that the jaguar species that live in forested areas are wild and even domestic cats.
However, according to biologist Enrique Abrajao, the descriptions of the species made by the interlocutors in the video sequence are incorrect. First, the doubts were whether the filmed species would be a jaguar or an ocelot. But in fact, it was neither one nor the other option.
“It’s actually a cougar, it’s not an ocelot or even a jaguar. (…) The puppy is naturally spotted, but when he becomes an adult, he has another coat,” he repeats.
Species have even been confused with pets.
In another video of the episode, the person who filmed the footage complains that he bought a “cat” from another man, but the animal grew too large and was very aggressive, in addition to not eating mice.
“Yesterday my mother-in-law was walking with a bowl of mango on her head, and this cat, hiding in a thicket of grass, attacked her right in the neck,” the man said.
The biologist then repeated that it was again a puma cub, incorrectly weaned from its mother at an early age. Misidentified, Enrique thinks it’s important not to try to identify animal species based on assumptions.
“I hope you were able to understand the difference between the animals presented so far. (…) Mothers need to leave the cubs to hunt and be absent for a while, and then the person catches the animal. They even give homemade meat, when in fact many of them need to eat the insides, ”he notes.
