Animal Protection Seminar
To discuss pet care, the city hosted a public policy workshop for animal welfare in Blumenau. On the morning of June 21, Mayor Mario Hildebrandt and Vice Mayor Maria Regina de Sousa Soar officially opened the events, which lasted from 9:00 to 16:00, in the hall of the Association of Municipalities of the European Valley (Amve).
Hildebrant highlighted the work carried out in the city in favor of the development of state policy aimed at protecting animals. At the event, he stated that the city government is working to make the process of microchipping animals in the city permanent as part of a future project by the executive branch.
“The aim is to minimize retention in the municipality, thereby identifying the owner. This is a challenging task for managers and we know how important it is to support animal welfare organizations that are partners in this journey,” he said.
In addition to the head of the local executive, the seminar was attended by representatives of the non-governmental organizations Protetor Diogo Orsi and SOS Bicho Urbano, as well as the Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development (Semmas), who are promoting the event in the municipality.
The event brought together experts in the field of animal protection, target audience: veterinarians; animal advocates; environmental educators; and students of veterinary medical faculties.
Through the event, the municipality of Blumenau seeks to discuss public policy in favor of animals, focusing on issues such as responsible custody, registration, reproductive control, inspection and application of penalties for cases of abandonment and abuse.
