Do you know the word “jagleon”? It was a popular name given to two cubs that were born from a cross between a jaguar and a lion. Biologist Enrique Abrajao took the opportunity to post a video on social media about the case.
The biologist says that in this crossing, the lion and the jaguar were brought to Canada, where the crossing took place. “He was taken there and they stayed together, inseparable love, and these wonderful ones were born there,” biologist Enrique said in his famous jocular tone.
In this case, a black melanic jaguar crossed with a lioness. Two puppies were born from the content. “One was born melanic, after his father, and the other was born the same, lighter, after his mother, a lioness,” the biologist quotes. “Cool as hell,” he jokes.
Biologist explains the crossing that resulted in the Jagleon
“When we are going to do this type of cross to ensure we get a female, we usually prefer the female to be of the larger species because there will be complications in the birth,” he says. According to the biologist, if it were the other way around, big problems could arise.
Moreover, in this case, the biologist says that this was not an induced cross. That they stayed together and eventually crossed paths.
