The video was recorded in January 2022 at a depth of hundreds of meters off the coast of Ronge Island in Antarctica. Another observation occurred in 2021. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute has shared a video of one of the nine recordings it has so far managed to capture the adorable creature.
The first species of giant ghost jellyfish was discovered in 1899, but it wasn’t until 60 years later that scientists recognized it as a new species. Ghost jellyfish survive under high pressure and are among the most predatory creatures on the ocean floor.
