On Tuesday afternoon (31) the margay cat was returned to nature after leaving SAASBlu (Blumenau Wild Animal Care Service) in Blumenau, in the Itajai Valley.
The release took place around 14:00 with the support of the Environmental Military Police and the participation of Semmas (Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development). A wild animal with a scientific name vidi leopardattended SAASBlu since December last year.
According to the service, the cat, which now has a microchip for identification, was hit last month, but no signs of a fracture were found on the body. However, the animal had hemotropic mycoblastosis, a flea disease of dogs and cats.
Hemotropic mycoplasmosis is a disease that affects cats and is caused by a bacterium carried by ectoparasites. This can cause hemolytic anemia (destruction of red blood cells).
If one of these wild animals is found, the Environmental Military Police can be contacted at 3378-8480 or 3378-8477.
