What the city says
Secretary of the Environment of Balneario Camboriu Maria Eloisa Furtado Lenzi explains that the municipality, through the Abraço Animal program, returns more than 1.2 million reais per year to the non-governmental organization Viva Bicho, in addition to the amounts returned for environmental services such as various works on improvement, carried out in recent years in the shelter.
This amount goes to the maintenance of the shelter, staff salaries, sterilization, veterinary care and the purchase of feed.
The mayor’s office also says it is fully committed to saving vulnerable animals, as well as conducting environmental education activities in schools and the community for responsible management.
“NGO Viva Bicho and government agencies cannot accept all abandoned animals due to the irresponsibility of people, including other cities that are taking advantage of the actions developed here to abandon animals in Balneario Camboriu,” the note from the city says. Hall.
