A loggerhead turtle of the species Caretta caretta was found already dead and washed ashore in Praia Brava in Itajaí, on the north coast of Santa Catarina, this Sunday (16). The animal was one meter long and was found in a state of severe decomposition.
The authorities of Itajai, Famai and the Department of Public Works have already been notified of the incident so that the carcass can be removed, information obtained from the Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project.
The Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project is an activity developed under the terms of federal environmental licensing held by Ibama (Brazilian Environment Institute) for Petrobras’ oil and natural gas production and supply activities in the basin. from Santos.
The project aims to assess the possible impact of oil extraction and oil production on birds, turtles and marine mammals through monitoring of beaches and veterinary care for live animals and autopsy of those found.
