She has always loved and protected dogs. He took abandoned, old, hurt, injured, weakened dogs off the streets and found temporary homes until he found someone who could donate them. Marley Pekarski, 60, retired, independent dog advocate and president of the NGO Apajoi. Even while doing this job on her own, Marley wanted to go further and came up with the idea of renting a house for the dogs she rescued from the street. So, seven years ago, she bought a house in Vila Nova and rented it out. Because the house is old, the owner agreed to charge low rent, and Marley has been taking dogs there ever since.
With an assistant, Marley switches between his job and “Casa da Mama”, which has already collected 30 dogs from the streets. They are treated well there, they receive affection, food, water, bathing, they are all castrated, vaccinated and microchipped, ready for responsible adoption.
To save the house, Marley asks for help on Facebook, engages in crowdfunding, bazaars, sweepstakes, sells soda cans and caps in order to be able to buy food and hygiene products, in addition to paying rent. Sometimes money is not enough, but he never stopped taking an animal.
“Often I remain in the red, but I do everything for the safety of dogs. The main thing is that they stay healthy,” emphasizes Marley.

Marley’s request for a donation of quality feed, even a kilogram, but of good quality. “I ask this because quality is preferred over quantity. Poor quality feed often causes diarrhea in animals, and it is very sad to see how they suffer, ”the defender justifies.
But of course, what Marley wants most is to raise awareness about responsible adoption. How are you? It’s not worth anything, is it?
