The case of a 70-year-old woman killed by an elephant in India and then raided at her funeral has received a new development. According to information gathered by the Indian media, the deceased old woman was named Maya Murmu. She acted as a hunter and went to fetch water when the animal trampled her.
According to local police, the woman was taken to the hospital and died from her injuries. A few days later, during Maya’s funeral, the elephant returned with a herd of 10 animals and trampled on Murmu’s coffin. The elephants would follow in succession to the woman’s village and destroy the houses of that place.
According to Odisga TV, the reason for the elephant’s “revenge” was that the woman had killed the animal’s calf. The images show what the burial site looked like after the attack:

The province of Odisha is known for conflicts between elephants and humans. According to the Indo-Asian News Service, India’s main news agency, 46 elephants have been killed in the region in the past seven months.
