The mayor’s office said poisoning from adulterated alcoholic beverages is suspected when a group of people who have consumed the same drinks at the same establishment or come from the same location exhibit symptoms such as confusion , vomiting, difficulty speaking, loss of coordination, slow breathing, paleness, decreased body temperature, difficulty staying awake, or loss of consciousness.

Level of intoxication due to adulterated drink

Nephrologist Livia Vazquez explains that the level of intoxication varies depending on several factors. “It depends on the toxicity threshold of the substance, on the person who acquired the substance, on how susceptible they are to a particular type of toxicity,” he said.

The specialist states that in most cases, food poisoning occurs in a mild form, but can develop into more serious situations, especially if we are talking about patients with one or another morbidity. “An underlying disease condition puts the patient in a situation where they are more susceptible to complications from other diseases than a person who does not have health problems might not have such severe consequences,” he explains.

Last Monday (18), the civil police of Minas Gerais arrested a 58-year-old man suspected of selling adulterated whiskey in Betim, Greater BiH. Police are still investigating whether the substance is linked to the deaths of two people and the infection of seven others with symptoms of liver disease and exogenous intoxication.

The death of a 34-year-old metallurgical operator will be one of the poisoning deaths under investigation, possibly related to the consumption of an adulterated drink. According to a relative of Josadache Rodrigues, the young man lost consciousness and was taken to the medical center on Monday (11).

Rodriguez died Wednesday (age 13) after his health deteriorated, suffering eight seizures and two cardiopulmonary arrests. Symptoms reported so far have included abdominal pain, vomiting and blood-stained bowel movements, and difficulty urinating.

The mayor’s office of Betim declared data protection without confirming whether Geosadac Rodriguez was among the deaths under investigation.
