Residents of Joinville were outraged when they sought help at the emergency department (UPA) south of Joinville on Monday afternoon (18). Images taken by a local resident show dozens of people waiting for help at the front desk and no staff in the offices.
The first video, sent by a resident who preferred not to identify herself, shows several patients in the waiting room of the department, located in the Joao Costa area. In the second video, a woman enters the waiting room and sees an empty space, just like the offices.
“There is no doctor, where are the doctors who treat? It’s all packed,” a woman says to a passing professional. The patient then records images of the offices, but they are all empty.
According to the resident, service returned to normal only after she threatened to call the police. The wait for medical assistance took three hours.
What does the mayor’s office of Joinville say?
According to the Joinville City Hall, the service at UPA Sul on Monday afternoon went smoothly. During this period, two specialists were involved in the classification of patients, and the medical team was staffed.
In addition, the mayor’s office of Joinville also asked patients experiencing similar situations to formally register a complaint with the Ombudsman so that the Department of Health could verify specific cases.
