Despite the decline in incidence, the disease still kills more black people. There has been an increase in cases among black and brown people, accounting for more than half of the cases since 2015.
Over the past ten years, Santa Catarina has recorded a 30.7% decrease in AIDS mortality, which has increased from 6.5 to 4.5 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. The state reported 455 deaths with HIV or AIDS as the underlying cause in 2022, a 7.8% decrease from the 494 deaths reported in 2012. Among the country’s capitals, Floripa recorded 9.7 deaths for every 100 thousand inhabitants last year – a rate higher than the national rate.
