The incident shocked the community last Friday (24) when a medical error led to the 90-year-old woman being wrongly declared dead. The event became known when the family was informed of the death, but hours later it was discovered that the elderly woman was alive.
Renato, the elderly woman’s son, and Jessica, a family friend, were the first to report the incident to reporter Sérgio Guimarães. They said the elderly woman’s death was reported at the hospital on Saturday evening (25), a day after she was admitted to the ward.
“I filled out all the documents and called the funeral home. The boy let me go and when I was at home early in the morning, he called me and told me to go back to the hospital as my mother was alive. He found her alive in the morgue,” Renato said.
It turns out that while preparing the body for burial, the employee noticed signs of life. The elderly woman’s body was still warm, and upon examination it was discovered that she was still breathing. A medical team was immediately called and the elderly woman was taken back to intensive care.
“After resuscitation, she was sent to the ward the next day. No feeding tube. She didn’t eat for three days and died today (27) at 4 am,” Jessica said.
After the initial scare, the elderly woman was moved to a hospital ward. Unfortunately, even after the episode, her health deteriorated and she died approximately 30 hours after the first death certificate.
