The doors of the San Joaquim hospital in Sombrio, in the south of Santa Catarina, closed since the beginning of the week (21), opened a temporary emergency department last Friday morning (24) at the DME (Municipal Department of Sports). .
Last weekend’s tornado damaged the hospital’s electrical system, several wings and equipment in addition to the roof. Therefore, the facility was closed for repairs, which should last another 42 days.
All patients had to be transferred and the sports department was designated as an alternative location. DME was chosen due to the structure’s large footprint and location, as well as the fact that it was not damaged by the tornado.

Casa Joaquim’s emergency department, created in collaboration with the city’s mayor’s office, operates 24 hours a day and is staffed by two doctors, two nurses and five nursing assistants.
In addition to receiving patients, there are triage, treatment and emergency departments, as well as chairs, stretchers, a pharmacy and other supplies to serve the population in order of priority.
However, the structure does not have X-ray equipment, laboratories or hospitalization facilities. Therefore, in difficult cases, you should contact the Regional Hospital of Ararangua.
