President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived at the Sirio Libanes Hospital in Brasília at around 8am this Friday (29), where he will undergo surgery on his right hip for osteoarthritis.
The Federal Chief Executive was accompanied by First Lady Janya and two doctors who will not work directly in the surgical department. Part of the surgical center has been reserved for the president, who is expected to remain in hospital until at least next Tuesday (3). Information taken from R7.
Lula’s hip surgery
The operation is aimed at installing a hybrid prosthesis and is considered low risk. The PT member must undergo general anesthesia. The operation should last two to three hours. Lulu will soon be transferred to the intensive care unit for observation. The procedure is standard and the President is due to be transferred to the chamber this Saturday (29).
The intervention was recommended by the medical team, but Lula had been postponing the operation since late last year. The 77-year-old president complained several times about the pain he was experiencing.
The medical team responsible for the operation is already monitoring the president’s condition, and the procedure will be carried out by four doctors, three from Sao Paulo and one from Brasilia. Despite the closure of the surgical center department, the hospital’s press service confirmed that the department continues to operate as normal.
The recovery time will be at least three weeks, during which the President will leave the Palacio da Alvorada.
According to Planalto’s interlocutors, during this period Vice President Geraldo Alckmin should not assume the office of President of the Republic. This possibility was discussed by the Planalto teams, but was rejected because the vice president can make decisions if an episode occurs that requires immediate presidential action.
