The medical team that performed surgery on former President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday morning (12) at the Vila Nova Star Hospital in Sao Paulo said the procedures “went satisfactorily” and “without any complications.” According to doctors, Bolsonaro is already in the ward and will be re-examined at the end of the day.
The ex-president was operated on by teams of gastroenterologists and otolaryngologists. The doctors who performed the procedures were António Luis de Vasconcellos Macedo, Eduardo Guimarães Urno de Moura, Sergio Salomao Abdala Carui and Pedro Enrique Loretti. Information taken from R7.
Bolsonaro’s operations
The former president entered the surgery center shortly before 5 a.m. for procedures to correct a hiatal hernia, which is causing the patient reflux, and a deviated septum, which is making it difficult for him to breathe.
A hiatal hernia is a condition in which part of the stomach presses against the diaphragm muscle, causing reflux. The situation is a consequence of the stabbing the former president received during the 2018 elections in Huis de Fora (MG).
A deviated septum occurs when the structure separating the two nostrils is not straight and only requires attention when it interferes with breathing.
In a report on the former president’s health, doctors describe the procedures in detail. “Former President Jair Bolsonaro underwent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease using endoscopic fundoplication using the TIF technique,” the document states.
“Next, the procedure of septoplasty, turbinectomy and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty was performed. The operations went satisfactorily, without complications, the patient is already recovering in the ward. The procedural teams will re-evaluate the former President at the end of the day for new information,” the bulletin said.
