One of the worst crises of the century was the Covid-19 pandemic. Its consequences are still present in everyday life, and for women who already arrived sick in 2020, the problem turned out to be deeper.
The report “Fatigue: Impoverishment, Care Overload and Mental Anguish in Women,” developed by the NGO Think Olga, states that 45% of Brazilian women are diagnosed with anxiety, depression, or any other type of disorder.
The unprecedented study was conducted on 1,078 women aged 18 to 65 in all Brazilian states between May 12 and May 26, 2023. According to the study, mental health should not be a discussion limited to biological factors.
“Of course they have an impact, but the report shows us that the gender perspective and its intersections directly affect social relationships and therefore have a direct impact on female psychology,” explains Maira Liguori, director of Think Olga.
The main purpose of the report is to understand the structures that cause suffering to Brazilian women today. The study also collects data that demonstrates everything from work overload and financial insecurity to the mental and physical exhaustion caused by the care economy.
In addition, it covers all activities related to home care, as well as the production and maintenance of life.
