According to the latest epidemiological bulletin published this Wednesday, Dive/SC (Santa Catarina Epidemiological Surveillance Authority) recorded three new deaths from dengue fever in the past week (30). There is a case that is under investigation.
As a result, at least 94 people became victims of the infection in the state in 2023. This is more than recorded for the whole of 2022, when 89 patients did not resist.
The new confirmed deaths have occurred in Garouve, São Francisco do Sul, north of Santa Catarina, in São José, in Greater Florianópolis. The victims are 52, 77 and 51 years old respectively. The deaths occurred between June and August.
Between 21 and 28 August, 1,854 new cases were reported in Santa Catarina. So far, Dive has registered 108,870 patients in the state. Joinville, with 37,747 cases, is the city in Santa Catarina with the highest incidence of the virus.
“Compared to the same period last year, the growth amounted to 30.86% ([quando foram registrados] 83,196 cases),” the agency emphasizes. Of all the identified cases, 4003 have warning signs and 112 correspond to severe cases of the disease.
Despite the increase in cases, the Board notes a decrease in the number of outbreaks. “Compared to the same period in 2022, when 55,165 outbreaks were detected in 230 municipalities, there is a decrease in the number of detected outbreaks by 3.50%,” the epidemiological bulletin notes.

On the 14th, the TCE-SC (State Audit Chamber) released a study showing an 1800% increase in infections in the state over the past six years. From 2016 to 2023, cases in Santa Catarina jumped from 56 to more than 1,071 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the survey.
