While Santa Catarina has continued to receive little reward for jobs and services from the federal government for decades, its national leadership stands out in several segments and sectors. At the end of August, he also confirms himself in the field of healthcare, providing qualified services in human organ and tissue transplantation.
SC-Transplantes is an exemplary organization throughout Brazil. It was established by Decree No. 553 of Governor Esperidian Amin in 1999 and was soon accredited by the Ministry of Health. As a pioneer in the regulation of notifications, organ donation and transplantation, he has achieved exceptional results. For 14 years, Santa Catarina has topped the national donor rankings based on 18 years of statistical analysis.
Of the 1,300 human organs on the waiting list, the kidneys continue to be in the highest demand. 755 patients are waiting for compatible donors today. Cornea – 445, liver – 73, bone and marrow – much less.
The state occupies a prominent position in relation to donors. The ratio is 40 donors per 1 million inhabitants. Before the pandemic, this ratio was already 47.
According to the official map on the SC-Transplantes website, there were 70 notifications and 26 donations in July. The northeast/north region contributed the most with 83 notifications and 38 donations.
As coordinator of SC-Transplantes for 18 years, Dr. Joel de Andrade notes that the people of Santa Catarina support us as donations exceed demand.
In recent years, the system has been improved, especially in terms of compatibility control and, above all, in the complex logistics between the moment of donation and the location of the patient who will receive the new organ. It involves aircraft, ambulances and highly qualified specialists.
