“I was in shock, and at the moment when my world collapsed, I didn’t even know what to say, what to think at that moment. We had no idea that this is our child, that this is happening to us,” says the mother of the newborn, recorded in a small dance at the Marieta Konder Bornhausen hospital in Itajai.
The uprising came after the video had already been posted online. She says it took her a while to realize it was her son exposed in a “little dance”. The twins are the couple’s first children.

“The moment I opened the video, we [ela e o marido] did not determine that this is our child. I sent it to my husband, we shared the whole family, already indignant, not knowing that this was our child, ”he recalls.
The news that this was her son, one of the premature twins, came three days later when she went to visit her son in the hospital.
Alone, she was taken to a room where she spoke with a psychologist, a legal team, hospital management, and the head of the nursing department.
“They said the video was of my baby. There I was speechless. I didn’t even know what to say. I was in shock, and at the moment when my world collapsed, I didn’t even know what to say, what to think at that moment. It didn’t get to the point that this is our baby, that this is happening to us, because there are thousands of babies, and our little, so fragile, 29 weeks old, his brother is there, and he is fighting for his life. Knowing this, especially when alone, we have no idea what to do.”
After this news, she called her mother and husband, who went to the hospital “so that I would not be left alone.”
After that, she managed to see the children. The child in the video had to be isolated due to infection with bacteria. The other twin is still in intensive care. According to the Marieta hospital, they will have to stay in the ward for 30 days to gain weight.

The hospital said that “there is no connection between the fact of shooting and bacterial colonization, given that the collection was carried out the day before the incident.” Until now, babies continue to be fed through a tube.
“They [os profissionais do vídeo] left us in a panic. I’m in a shelter, I have no reason to leave them there. We don’t sleep after that, thinking about it all the time,” he says. “Nothing will erase this from our memory.”
Newborn case led to scrapping the note
As soon as the case gained publicity, the Marieta hospital issued a note condemning the behavior, which it considered “inappropriate and criminal.”
“All legal action – criminal, ethical-administrative and civil-legal – is taken with the greatest possible severity, including the verification of collaborators who filmed or participated in this unfortunate scene without protecting the child,” the note says.

“We, from the PHYSIOTHERAPY team of Marieta Konder Bornhausen Hospital, went through this to express our deep outrage at the actions of a physiotherapist belonging to our team, performing a dance with a newborn in the pocket of his personal clothes.
We emphasize that we are an outsourcing company that has been providing HMMKB hospital physiotherapy services for more than 5 years and we have never had such situations. We have professional leadership policies and codes of conduct that strictly follow the guidelines governing the profession.
We are appalled by the absurdity of the situation and inform you that the professional has been immediately removed from his duties and appropriate action will be taken, taking into account the decisions of the body regulating the profession (CREFITO) and with the hospital.
We regret that such an isolated and unpredictable event can cloud the image of the good work done by other team members and staff at Marieta Hospital.
We reaffirm our serious commitment to providing quality care and focus on the best recovery for patients.
