WHO (World Health Organization) indicates that life expectancy for men is 69.1 years, and for women – up to 73.8 years. According to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), women live 7 years longer than men.
But what is behind female longevity? Care, hormones, genetics? The aDiversa podcast will discuss this topic in an episode airing this Friday (18).
Paula Cassini, eye plastic surgeon, member of the SBCPO (Brazilian Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery), integrator doctor and PhD student in the field of longevity, says good habits are one of the reasons why women live longer.
“There is a hormonal issue that also causes men to have a greater predisposition to cardiovascular disease earlier than women,” explains Cassini.
Journalist Vanessa da Rocha, Special Projects Manager for the ND Group, which leads the Viver+ project on healthy aging, talks about her life experiences and how she began to lead a healthier lifestyle.
“Here at Grupo ND we have a racing group. In the weeks when I run, my body responds better, I have more energy, and this has a positive effect on my mood,” she says.
Paula adds that menstruation, pregnancy and breastfeeding are also health protective factors that increase women’s life expectancy. She also explains how hormonal imbalances can play out in the future.
