On the contrary, in the case of joint custody, according to Brazilian law, presence, care and financial support must be shared between the father and mother. This is the entire responsibility of both until the child is 18 years old.

According to a University of Connecticut study, father’s love or rejection affects personality development in childhood and behavior in adulthood. In an environment where family dynamics are changing, it is important to emphasize the relevance of parenthood even after divorce.

The Brazilian Civil Code contains a clear list of duties that separated parents must fulfill in order to protect and promote the healthy development of their children.

ABOUT no data+ spoke with attorney Vivian Pacheco, founder of Pacheco Advogados, to point out six responsibilities under the law. Check:

1. Duty to pay child support

According to Viviana, Brazilian law specifies that both parents must provide adequate support for their children, contributing financially according to their ability. This is Article 1694 of the Civil Code.

“This pension covers not only food, but also housing, education, health and other basic needs of children,” he adds.

2. The importance of regular and emotional coexistence

The lawyer points out that a healthy and permanent coexistence with both parents is the right of children, and not the choice of parents with whom they should communicate. This is Article 1589 of the Civil Code.

“Parents should establish close relationships by offering love, guidance, and emotional support to promote the healthy emotional and psychological development of their children,” explains Vivian.

3. Participation in relevant decision-making

“Shared decision-making related to the education, health and well-being of children is necessary to ensure that their needs are properly met,” the lawyer notes. This is established by Article 1632 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.

“Cooperation between parents in school selection, treatment, and extracurricular activities is an important aspect of parental responsibility.”

4. Provide protection and care

Vivian notes that the undeniable priority for separated parents, mentioned in Article 1583 of the Civil Code, is the physical and emotional integrity of their children.

“Protecting children from any form of abuse, neglect or risk is an essential responsibility to ensure a safe and supportive environment.”

5. Keep in touch and information

“Open communication and sharing of information about the well-being of children is a critical component in keeping parents connected and ensuring that all parties involved are informed about the lives of children,” Vivian emphasizes in accordance with Article 1589 of the Civil Code. Code.

6. Prevent parental alienation

“Another important issue to avoid is parental alienation, in which one parent negatively influences the child in relation to the other,” he notes. The question is based on Law no. 12,318/2010.

“This practice is detrimental to the emotional well-being of children, and it is therefore the responsibility of parents to avoid any relationship that may cause alienation,” the lawyer adds.

Father and son relationship

Psychologist Raphael Frasson stresses the importance of a strong relationship between father and son. “It is a level of emotional connection that shapes the lives of both incomparably. These relationships develop over time, from the first moments of caring to the development of camaraderie and mutual respect.”

Raphael explains that the evolution of connection goes through all stages of a child’s development and accompanies them growing up as human beings.

“In the early years, when a child learns to live day by day, the father is the guide in the eyes of the child. It will teach how to live and coexist in this complex world,” he explains.

As the child grows older, the relationship changes, the psychologist believes. “The father ceases to be merely a source of guidance and becomes a mentor. He shares experiences, gives advice and encourages independence. During this period, the relationship leaves room for the mutual exchange of knowledge.

According to him, as the child becomes an adult, the relationship between parents and children develops again. “Now they can get closer as friends and colleagues, sharing interests, stories and challenges. Mutual respect grows because of the journey that you have gone through together.

According to the psychologist, the relationship between father and son requires patience, empathy and selflessness, but is rewarded with deep and lasting love.

“This relationship, based on the connection between two people, is a powerful reminder of the importance of loving, caring for and investing in those who are an integral part of our heritage and who will become mentally healthy adults,” says Rafael.

The psychologist gives some important advice for parents:

  • Show genuine interest;
  • Make the most of your time and plan special events;
  • participate in children’s activities;
  • Always open and clear communication;
  • Get involved in the daily routine of children;
  • accept mistakes;
  • delegate tasks;
  • Learn to say no.
