Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Mello (Poland) says the waiting list for elective surgeries should be no longer than 90 days. The statement was made in an interview given ND group this Wednesday (19).
According to Mello, a campaign promise to eliminate the waiting list for elective surgeries by August was not fulfilled due to the state of public health in Santa Catarina.
“The line didn’t stop because healthcare in Santa Catarina was rotten and we didn’t know it was that rotten,” the governor says.
However, the manager also said that oncology, pediatric catheterization and orthopedic surgeries are excluded.
There are 62,000 people on the waiting list for elective surgeries in the state, according to SES/SC (Santa Catarina’s Department of Health).
dilapidated hospitals
According to Mello, the hospitals were disorganized and the queue for elective surgeries was wrong. This is because there were “duplicate names” and records of people who had already been through the procedure.
“They greatly exacerbated the cases of dengue fever that all ended up in hospitals, in addition to bronchiolitis and an avalanche of services. This is not an excuse, our intention was to nullify. The queue will never end, there are people who give up, they have already made a private, they have passed away. We need to organize a queue, make a new system, there were duplicate names and other errors,” he said.
Jorginho Mello also said that “no one waits in line for more than 90 days for elective surgeries.”
The governor also said that Santa Catarina’s health care is sick and that there will be reforms.
“We have already removed rotten doors, windows, hospitals have long been in disrepair. The hospital in São Paulo de Xancer specializes in heart surgeries and we hired them. This way, people no longer need to come to Florianopolis to get the procedure,” he explains.
Renovation work has already begun at the Governador Celso Ramos Hospital and the Carmela Dutra Maternity Hospital in Florianopolis. Public hospitals will have new reception areas and adequate spaces for those awaiting medical care, the governor said.
Mello also said his leadership is offering solutions and rebuilding public health in the state.
