The upstate city of Joinville has the highest number of dengue cases and deaths in Santa Catarina. Of the 53 deaths in the state, 17 (32%) are in Joinville, according to the latest Dive/SC bulletin.
In terms of cases, out of 50,716 confirmed cases, 38,308 are transmitted within the state. Among the transfers within SC, 11,503 (30%) were in the municipality of Joinville, according to a bulletin published on Wednesday (31).
The numbers could be even more alarming as Joinville’s city hall confirmed 18 deaths and 11,507 cases. The difference between the data is due to the municipality’s bulletin being updated faster than the bulletin issued by Dive, which counts data up to this Monday (29).
In the dengue fever ranking, Florianopolis ranks behind Joinville with 9 confirmed deaths. Palosa (8) and Balneario Camboriu (4) complete the list. In terms of cases, Palosa comes after Joinville, where 6,708 cases are confirmed, followed by Florianopolis (5,144) and San José (3,598).
Epidemic in 33 cities
Cases of dengue are common in 120 cities of Santa Catarina, and there is an epidemic of the disease in 33 municipalities. According to the WHO (World Health Organization), the status is achieved with an incidence rate of more than 300 cases of dengue per 100,000 inhabitants.
According to Dive/SC, dengue mosquito outbreaks have been reported in 235 municipalities. Of these, 148 were found to be infected. A total of 43,333 Aedes aegypti mosquito outbreaks have been reported in the state.
