Of the 1,183 active ICU beds in Santa Catarina, 97.46% are occupied, and there are no more vacancies in the three regions. There are only 30 available beds in the state, with 20 in the adult intensive care unit, nine in the neonatal unit and one in the most critically ill pediatric intensive care unit. The data is contained in the SUS SES/SC (Santa Catarina Secretary of Health) Bed Panel, last updated at 10:00 pm on Sunday (21).

Of the 30 available beds, most are located on the North and Northeast Plateau, where there are 11 vacancies. There are still eight available beds in the Southern Region; eight in the Midwest and Serra Santa Catarina and three in the Itajai Valley.

The state’s pediatric ICU bed situation is the most critical, with only one vacancy in the Midwest and Serra Santa Catarina region out of 121 active units.
According to the data available on the panel, a vacancy is available at the Infantil Seara do Bem hospital in Lajes.
In the remaining six districts of Santa Catarina, all beds of this type are occupied.

The situation with beds in neonatal intensive care units is also alarming, since Santa Catarina has only nine vacancies out of 237 active beds. The overall occupancy rate for this type of bed reaches 96%, with all beds occupied in four regions. These are: Greater Florianopolis; Mouth of the Itajai River, South and Great West.
Of the nine available NICU positions, four are in the Midwest and Serra Santa Catarina; three in the Itajai valley; and two on the Northern and Northeastern Plateau.

In terms of adult intensive care beds, overall occupancy reaches 97.58% with only 20 vacancies in the state. Available beds are located in hospitals in the regions: Planalto Norte and Nordeste, with nine vacancies; South, with eight vacancies; and Midwest and Serra Santa Catarina with three.
There are no more free beds in the public network in four regions. These are: Greater Florianopolis; Mouth of the Itazhai River; Itajai Valley and Great West
Compared to last Friday (19), there was a slight deterioration in adult ICU beds as six more beds were available in Santa Catarina at the time to serve the public.

According to the State Department of Health, Santa Catarina is facing a seasonal period with an increase in cases of viral infectious diseases such as dengue fever and respiratory illnesses, resulting in high public web traffic.
According to the latest dengue bulletin published by Dive, as of May 15, 34,700 cases of the disease have been confirmed in Santa Catarina, 38 of which have already died from the disease. As for influenza, 245 cases of influenza were confirmed, 12 deaths.
With regard to the intensive care unit, the folder emphasizes that if there are not enough beds in the state network, the state will hire empty places in the private sector to meet the demand.
