In the next few hours, hospital leaders and politicians from Icara, in southern South Carolina, should… as they say in the region “heat asphalt to the capital” – look for a solution to the risk of closing the maternity hospital at the San Donato hospital. This is due to the fact that since the beginning of the year the division has not had an agreement with state resources for the provision of services. Thus, without motherhood, mothers will have to look for other cities to give birth to their children.

With the exception of the expression “forbidden to be born”, taken to an extreme, used here only to attract the attention of the reader, one should take into account great care and zeal so that the population of more than 60 thousand inhabitants of Ichara is not left without a maternity hospital.

This Thursday, San Donato hospital management circulates the details of the bills that make the maternity hospital impossible, and therefore the announcement of the closure of the department from Monday.

Currently, maternity hospitals can accommodate up to 140 births per month, which has already been achieved, although the current average is 60 births per month. Attendance is about 180 people per month.

Since January of this year, the hospital has ceased to receive 150,000 reais per month, transferred before that by the state government. this agreement was not renewed. There are technical claims for this from the State Department of Health. Last year, the hospital requested that this amount be increased to 250,000 reais per month, given the increase in costs.

The intensive care unit of the same hospital was also left without a monthly transfer, which was, however, this service is charged for billing for services rendered under a valid contract.

The San Donato Hospital is currently posting a loss of more than 2 million reais due to the lack of transfer of these suspended agreements.
