This Monday, the children waited almost 12 hours for help at the Joan de Gusmão Children’s Hospital in Florianopolis (4). Patients who arrived at 11 am were still waiting for a call around 10:30 pm.
The mother and two children arrived at 4:00 pm with symptoms of hand-foot-mouth syndrome and were not seen until 2:00 Tuesday (5), according to a staff member who asked not to be named.
“Many are leaving. To shut people up, plain coffee will be served in emergencies. Delivered 4 times a day. Like it was going to solve her,” the employee says.
The SES (Secretary of State for Health) said in a note that the increase in cases of viral infectious diseases such as dengue fever and respiratory diseases reflects the search for medical care in all regions.
“Units are being organized to meet increased demand, however data shows that about 50% of consultations are for patients categorized as low priority (green), in this sense it is important to clarify that hospitals use the Secretariat of Health protocol when screening for risk classification, giving the priority of the most serious assistance, ”the text says.
The Secretariat reported that 20 patients were waiting for care at 9:20 am on Tuesday, seven were being screened and four were being treated. In addition, 14 patients were under observation.
Peak hours for care start at the end of the morning and intensify from 7:00 pm, when parents come home and notice that their children are sick. However, the SES notes that there is an increase in the severity of cases.
Works and emergency
Governor Jorginho Mello (Poland) by his decree determined the extension of the opening hours of the main medical centers until 22:00.
The folder highlights that the ordinance also defines the expansion of teams at UBS, UPA, and emergency services across the state to serve the public.
“These expansions will be funded by state government resources totaling 10 million reais. The action aims to, in addition to expanding primary health care services, reduce the demand for emergency care in hospitals so that they can provide care for the most serious cases.”
The Public Health Emergency Decree applies to hospitals in Greater Florianopolis, which are in more critical condition.
Planned work includes the expansion and construction of a new emergency room at the Joan de Gusmão Children’s Hospital, as well as 20 more beds in the intensive care unit for the same hospital.
