A one-year-old girl had her little finger amputated while removing a handcuff in an emergency room in Rio de Janeiro. The incident occurred on Tuesday (14) when a child was admitted to the ward for treatment of a forehead blister caused by a mosquito bite. Information taken from R7 Notícias.
Relatives said that the girl was hospitalized when she returned to the unit. According to the aunt, the child was treated and prescribed antibiotics, which did not help.
According to family members, the medical team ordered the child to be hospitalized for observation. For treatment, the girl was prescribed an injection of medication into a vein, and to protect access, her right arm was bandaged.
When the bandage was removed, at the end of the medication, the nurse cut the child’s right little finger with scissors. According to the family, after the incident, the professional ridiculed the situation and said that there was nothing they could do.
In a note, the Ministry of Health expressed regret over the incident and said that an administrative process had been launched to investigate the incident. In addition, until the end of the investigation, the person involved in the case, who had worked in the public service for 20 years, was removed.
