The Mpox vaccine, also called monkeypox, starts this Monday (13). According to the Ministry of Health, 47,000 doses will be distributed among all states and the federal district.
The campaign will use the Jynneos/Imvanex vaccine and as there is a dose limit, application will continue as long as supplies last. Information taken from R7.
The ministry classifies the vaccine as a “live vaccine”. “Derived from a modified strain of Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN), an attenuated and non-replicating orthopoxvirus against smallpox and monkeypox that elicits a humoral and cellular immune response against orthopoxviruses,” he explains in a note.
According to the folder, the vaccination schedule will consist of two doses (0.5 ml each) four weeks (28 days) apart for individuals over 18 years of age, to be offered to specific groups before and after exposure.
The health ministry told Agência Brasil that the public initially intended to administer the vaccine to around 16,000 people.
