The municipality of Palos in Greater Florianopolis accounts for almost half of the confirmed cases of dengue in Santa Catarina. According to Dive (Department of Epidemiological Surveillance), out of 1,330 positive diagnoses registered up to March 4, 650 were from residents of the municipality.

Dive’s data takes into account data submitted between January 1 and March 4, 2023. According to the survey, in addition to the significant number of confirmed cases in the municipality, two suspicious deaths from the disease have been reported in Palhoz.

According to the data, the deaths of a 67-year-old woman who died on March 1 and a 70-year-old man who died on March 2 are under investigation. Another death is being investigated, according to the Dive report, of a 69-year-old man, a resident of Blumenau.

This Thursday (9) Florianopolis confirmed the death of a woman due to dengue fever. The victim of the disease was a 34-year-old resident of the Trindade area.

Greater Florianopolis

The Greater Florianopolis region accounts for 61% of confirmed dengue cases in Santa Catarina, according to a Dive survey. A total of 812 cases have been reported in the Greater Florianopolis region up to March 4.

Apart from Palos, Florianopolis is the second municipality in the region with the highest number of confirmed cases and third at the state level. Until March 4, there were 129 confirmed cases in the capital of Santa Catarina, according to Dive. But that number is higher and reached 165 this Thursday (9).

São José, Biguaçu and São João Batista also had confirmed cases of dengue in 2023, according to Dive.

The report asked the Palos Department of Health to consult for updated data on dengue, but prior to the publication of this article at 6:30 p.m., the Ministry of Health was still collecting data. The space is still open for data updates from the Palos Health Department.
