“Love Your Body” is a photography exhibition launched by the International Dermatological Clinic (CDI) with the support of the Ruber Internacional Hospital to promote the importance of early diagnosis, raise skin cancer awareness among the youngest, and encourage self-exploration of the body. and stress the importance of checking moles once a year by a dermatologist, in addition to promoting body positivity.

“We are very pleased to use the opportunities of the International Dermatological Clinic to promote this exhibition. In fact, the room used to be an exhibition hall. We believe in the healing power of art. And that is why we combine the concepts of art and leather in this project. Our skin isolates us and informs us, excludes us and includes us in front of others. We are our skin,” the doctor confirmed. Ricardo Ruiz, Medical Director of the International Dermatological Clinic (CDI) and Head of the Dermatological Service at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, who is also an important educator on the importance of skin cancer prevention.

Opened yesterday and open to the public until June 30 at the International Dermatology Clinic (CDI), the Love Your Body exhibition features 21 works by Austrian photographer Max Manavi-Huber, selected by Maria Kruis, a melanoma sufferer and founder of a non-profit organization. organization Spot the Dot. Curated by Dr. Pedro Rodriguez, Expert Dermatologist in Skin Oncology and Dermatological Surgery at CDI and Ruber Internacional Hospital, the photography exhibition is held with the special collaboration of the Ramon Areces Foundation and the Solo Collection, an international art project to promote, support and share current works of art.

Skin cancer

In Spain, the number of cases of skin cancer has increased by 15 in the last 50 years, and experts attribute this to “lack of awareness of the disease and insufficient prevention in sun exposure.” In Spain, 2,000 new patients are registered every year, of which more than 700 deaths are numbers that could have been avoided.

According to Dr. Ricardo Ruiz, the message of the exhibition is twofold: skin cancer is not only to be worried about at the first rays of the sun, and it is not only useful to apply sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. “While we must use every means at our disposal to avoid sun damage; goggles, hats, sun protection… don’t forget the important part, which is checking the moles. The difference is that you visit a dermatologist once a year, because cancer is detected during a consultation,” he notes.

Skin cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer with very good recovery rates. However, public awareness of skin cancer symptoms is currently low, meaning that vital opportunities for early detection may be missed.
