According to the latest Dive/SC (Surveillance Council) bulletin, data collected in November, most municipalities in Santa Catarina have a low risk of dengue. At the same time, the number of containers with stagnant water increased by 158%.

LIRAa (Aedes aegypti Rapid Index Survey) was carried out by municipalities considered to be infested with Aedes aegypti. Aedes aegypti???????? The procedure allows you to identify areas with a higher proportion or occurrence of outbreaks, as well as the predominant breeding sites, indicating the risk of transmission of dengue, chikungunya and Zika.

The activity is carried out by visiting a certain number of properties in the municipality where the larvae are collected to determine the IIP (building infestation index).

As defined in the Operational Strategy of Santa Catarina, affected municipalities are required to carry out activities in March and November.

The survey says 84.8% were classified as having a low risk of transmitting the disease. Already 15.2% of cities are referred to the average level, and last year the majority of municipalities (46.6%) fell into this classification.

Dengue cases in Brazil increased by 172%

The Federal District has over 67,200 cases of dengue since the beginning of the year. This amount is almost five times higher than the amount registered for the same period last year. The number of severe cases has increased from 15 to 61 and the number of deaths from dengue has reached 11 this year and reached 10 by early December 2021. With these numbers, Brasilia has become the epicenter of dengue in the country.

In absolute terms, Goiânia, the capital of Goiás, ranks second with almost 53.8 thousand cases. And, in third place, is the city of Aparecida de Goiania, also in Goias, with just over 25,100 dengue fever notifications.

The high numbers make the Midwest the region with the largest outbreak, with 1,993 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In second place is the south of the country, which has just over half of this figure: 1043 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants.

Around 1.4 million cases of dengue have been reported across the country to date, up 172.4% from last year. The number of confirmed deaths from the disease is 978.
